Title
Algal Removal Effects by the Continuous Micro-Filtration Technique for the Public Water Treatmeat Plants
송준상Jun Sang Song
Abstract
As the population has increased and the industry has developed, the water resources from underground water can not meet some demands and, many cities has focused the water supply source on lake, stream and reservoir. The conversion of supplying water source to surface water from underground water creates some troubles in securing water source and treating water. That`s because it`s possible to drink underground water only after it should be through complicated treatment process removing useless organism in it. Those problems are taste, odor, clogging of membrane, pipe, cooling tower, growth of organism on a wall of a reservoir, algae bloom of surface water and pollution and poisonous of treated water. The stink material produced by algae can be purified by increase of adding Cl and chemical coagulation-deposition in the treatment facilities for water work in the past widely, physical seperation removal technology using membrane in recent has been developed and Continuous Micro-Filtration is the most among them. 1) The removal effect of algae and suspended solid during the experimentation executed in Pusan and Daegu city has been proved and the treated water is suitable for the resource of drinking water quality (lst∼2nd grade). 2) CMF unit remove about 40% of BOD, COD, and KMnO₄ consumption amount therefore it can treat the raw water of Naktong river which inappropriate to 3rd grade in the standard of water quality and improve it to the suitable water quality of the standard of water work quality. 3) If the concentration of Chlorophyll a exceed 20 ㎎/㎥, it could be believed that eutrophication happens, therefore the water treatment plants in Pusan and Daegu city have already had problems due to the eutrophication. But the water qualities of treated water during the experimentation were 0.11±0.22 ㎎/㎥ and 0.06±0.02 ㎎/㎥ in average. Therefore it has been proved that the CMF has excellent capability of removing algae. 4) In order to purify a potable water, much amount of Cl is put to remove hydrophytes which cause unpleasant smell and taste but, in this case, trihalomethane which is believed as one of carcinogen comes into being and may harm to people. Treated water by CMF unit can keep from creating harmful object and maintain the natural water because it remove hydrophytes with physical method not by adding Chemicals.
