Characteristics Analysis of I-O-S with Detention Station by Typhoon Maemi

Abstract
The typhoon Mami with a concentrated heavy rain had inundated around Odae-ri, Kilan-myeon located at Kyongbook province. This study was performed to analysis the influence of the small detention station on the inundation. The heavy rain generated by the Maemi at September, 2003 was estimated to be more than 500 years of recurrence interval for the short duration of 1~12 hours as well as for the duration of mid-long term with 24~72 hours. The peak flood generated by the typhoon Maemi was 3.65~3.87 times greater than 50, 80 and 100 years of the probability year. When the existed drainage area (2.269m²) is applied for the probability years to evaluate for the carrying capacity of the detention station with or without booster station at the inundation region, the low water level and the detention storage between 50 years of drainage design criteria and 100 years of the probability showed a little difference with 0.l m and 2.0x10³m³ respectively. Based on the above results, the temporary drain pipe regardless of the detention station at the region of Odae-ri could be discharged the flood more than the design criteria of it with the frequency of 30~80 years. However, the rainfall with more than 500 years of probability frequency have been generated since 1998, which have limited the drainage of the existed detention station and the drain pipe. Thus, it is revealed to be prepared a more strength criteria than the existed design condition in designing the detention station, temporary drain pipe, and the pumping station.
