Abstract
In this study, titanium scraps were used as bipolar packed-bed electrodes for the electrochemical treatment of soluble cutting fluid (SCF), and the removal efficiency of CODCr from the SCF and oil from the titanium scraps were analyzed in accordance with the scrap density, current density, electrolyte type and concentration. The removal efficiency of CODCr after 60 min was 76.0%, 73.8%, 85.0%, and 84.2% for a scrap density of 0, 10, 20, and 30 g/L, respectively, while the removal efficiency for oil was 75.8%, 78.8%, and 66.8% for a scrap density of 10, 20, and 30 g/L, respectively. In addition, the removal efficiency of CODCr after 60 min was 85.0%, 89.1%, and 94.4% and that of oil was 78.8%, 86.3%, and 89.3% for a current density 40, 60, and 80 A/m2, respectively. Finally, after testing the system with no electrolyte or with either Na2SO4 or NaCl (5-10 mM), the highest removal efficiency of CODCr and oil was 94.4%, and 89.3%, respectively, with no electrolyte and a current density of 80 A/m2. In conclusion, the removal of efficiency of CODCr and oil was maximized with a scrap density of 20 g/L, a current density of 80 A/m2, and no electrolyte.
